HME RECRUIT NEW EMPLOYEE

HME COMPLETE FURTHER MOD WORKS IN WESTERN SCOTLAND

We’re happy to announce completion of design work on two projects for Mitie FDIS on behalf of the Ministry of Defence. Mitie is carrying out the initial £160 million contract to provide maintenance work, repairs, servicing, and hard FM works in Scotland and elsewhere.

We’ve risen to a few challenges in connection with the capacity of the existing site infrastructure through innovative plant selection, whilst still meeting the Client’s tight deadlines.

HME WELCOMES OUR NEW DIRECTORS

HME are delighted to announce the promotion to Director for our existing staff members Sam Goodall, James Johnson, Mike Malt and Steve Caithness.

They will sit alongside Michael Bainbridge and Dave Smith on the main board of Directors, bringing a diverse range of skills and experience.

THE GRAND ULEV OPENING CEREMONY

Opening ceremony of an MoD sites new set of ULEV charging points, delivered by the Humphreys design team.  Only one of many installations that HME are working on to provide the MoD nationally with an electric vehicle charging network!

MULTIPLE DESIGNS DELIVERED FOR AN EAST YORKSHIRE SITE

HME are pleased to have delivered several design packages at a busy site in East Yorkshire. These included a new Dental Suite and a number of boiler replacements and air conditioning refurbishments in critically important buildings.

Following close liaison with our valued Client and the on-site maintenance team, we led a multi-disciplinary team to deliver the design packages on time and to budget.

The Dental Suite project is one of a number being undertaken in the North of England and involves close co-ordination with specialist equipment manufacturers to ensure smooth project delivery.

We hope to continue our successful partnership with this key Client during 2024 as the upgrade work on this site and others in the region continues.

NORTH TYNESIDE CHRISTMAS APPEAL

North Tyneside Council do a fantastic job of supporting families that are less fortunate and we are delighted to have assisted them with making Christmas as enjoyable as possible for tenants and residents across North Tyneside.

We are completely overwhelmed by the donations we received from our colleagues and would like to say a huge thank you to all involved. Whether that was donations, support or delivering the van load of goodies.

After a very busy year for HME, we had a well-deserved team night out at Lane 7 in Newcastle. We enjoyed some food & drinks alongside a couple of very competitive games of bowling & darts. What a great night had by all 😊

HANGAR REFURBISHMENT WELL UNDERWAY!

HME and our multidisciplinary partners responded to our valued client to deliver the complex design of a multi-million-pound refurbished aircraft hangar in just 16 weeks. We continue to work closely with the construction team, and we’re delighted to confirm that the refurbishment is well underway, on programme and on budget.

On Friday 22 September we took part in a 5-a-side football tournament at the Beacon of Light, Sunderland.

Revitalising Sunderland Civic Centre with Countryside Partnerships North East

Humphrey M&E Consultants are delighted to continue our successful relationship with Countryside Partnerships North East (Formerly Vistry Partnerships) on Phase 2 of the Civic Centre Regeneration in Sunderland City Centre. This development is part of a wider plan to construct 7,000 new homes across the city by 2030.

Following demolition of the iconic 1960s Civic Centre building, the flagship project will comprise the construction of 265 new homes including 4No. new residential blocks.

Welcome to our New Home in South Tyneside

Humphrey M&E Consultants are pleased to advise that following our move in early April, we’re settling in nicely to the new premises in Boldon Business Park.

We project managed various refurbishment works to ensure the new premises met all our operational needs, and now have two floors of high-quality office space in which to serve our many valued clients.

The staggered moves from our old Backworth and Durham Offices went very smoothly, thanks to extensive in-house planning and lots of cooperation from the staff! Read more…

HME GO INTERNATIONAL !! 😊

We are delighted to be working again with Glasgow-based Architect Convery Prenty Shields on an exciting new-build two-storey Nursery and Early-Years centre in Lenzie near Glasgow.

The centre will be built to the high profile end-users’ technical specification and will feature high-efficiency air source heat pumps serving underfloor heating and domestic hot water.

Heat recovery ventilation will be used in the majority of the rooms. The building will feature passive solar shading and the electrical power will be supplemented with a large roof-mounted photovoltaic array.

All the building services systems will of course be designed and installed with the safety of the young users in mind. Read more…

HMP BOILER PLANT REPLACEMENT M&E DESIGN WORKS

Humphrey M&E Consultants are delighted to be working with Amey plc on heating boiler and domestic hot water plant replacement works at a number of HMP establishments.

When undertaking initial site surveys, it was often found that the existing ageing boilers suffer from regular breakdowns, are less efficient than modern equivalents, are beyond economic repair as parts become obsolete and therefore required urgent replacement.

In each instance Humphrey M&E Consultants have undertaken Low and Zero Carbon Technology feasibility studies to determine the most energy efficient and sustainable solutions to help reduce MOJ establishment energy costs and therefore contribute to carbon savings. This included close engagement with the Client project delivery and site maintenance teams. Read more…

HMP SHOWER REFURBISHMENT M&E DESIGN WORKS

Humphrey M&E Consultants are delighted to be working with Amey plc and JYM Partnership on the refurbishment of shower facilities under the Capital and Decency Funding Programmes at multiple HMP establishments.

A number of the existing shower facilities were found to be of inadequate standard, with many experiencing mould growth and insufficient ventilation. The high level scope was to provide the maximum number of cubicle shower outlets for the given space and to comply with the MOJ Property Directorate Technical Standards.

All specified items were suitable for use within establishments including the use of anti-ligature fittings, fixtures, security rated grilles and louvres. Read more…

NORTH TYNESIDE CHRISTMAS APPEAL

As we head towards Christmas our thoughts move toward those families that are less fortunate, especially those that may find themselves struggling for food or presents to open on the special day. Some things that many of us take for granted.

HME have contributed several food hampers and sundry goods to North Tyneside Christmas Appeal who support ‘Looked after Children’, local food banks and VODA’s Good Neighbour Project.

With another challenging year to come for everyone due to inflation and cost of living pressures, Humphrey M&E Consultants have committed to support various local food banks on a regular basis in the coming year. Read more…

Rachael gave birth to Carter William weighing in at a healthy 8lb 13 oz earlier this month. Congratulations to Rachael, husband Paul and daughter Rosa.

Harriet gave birth to twin boys on 16 November.  Jack weighing in first at 6lb closely followed by Tommy 19 minutes later weighing in at 5lb 12oz. Congratulations to Harriet, husband Craig and daughter Ava, who are all looking forward to starting life as a family of 5.  Read more…

HME have successfully achieved ISO14001 : 2015 Accreditation and now have certification.

NO MOW MAY

HME North Tyneside office took part in the national campaign “No Mow May” letting the lawns, grow freely around the office enabling bees, butterflies and other wildlife to get a much-needed boost this spring.  All we had to do was resist the urge to cut the lawn in May.  Once the grass was left various species of wild orchids grew in abundance including Bird’s nest orchid and early purple orchid along with rare meadow flowers.

Research has revealed that mowing lawns less frequently can provide enough nectar sugar for ten times the amount of bees, butterflies, moths, beetles and other pollinators.

We would like to send our congratulations to Kieran for passing his recently taken IES Part L Dynamic Simulation Examination.

Kieran will now be completing his CIBSE Energy Assessor application and will become a fully qualified Energy Assessor in the near future. 

HEATING UPGRADE TO A PRESTIGE BUILDING AT A MOD SITE

The replacement of the existing heating system at a prestige building on a MOD site is nearing successful completion. 

The project is on time and on budget.

UNEXPECTED BUT PLEASANT VISITORS AT HME

Humphrey M&E Consultants found themselves with five unusual visitors.  Five local sheep had made their escape from the local School and found themselves at Humphrey M&E Offices in Backworth.  The sheep were extremely friendly and didn’t cause any issues and staff ensured that the sheep were kept safe until they were reunited with their owner.

A DRIVE TO NET CARBON ZERO ON A MILITARY ESTATE

Humphrey M&E Consultants are proud to be involved in the drive for Net Carbon Zero on a military estate with the completion of carports with Solar PV and intelligent 20 bay Electric Vehicle Charging.

NEW PREMIER INN HOTEL IN ALNWICK

Humphrey M&E Consultants are working with H Malone and Sons on the new Premier Inn Hotel in Alnwick.

The project is for the design of the M&E services serving the 80 bed hotel that includes 12 premier plus rooms, restaurant, kitchen, reception and back of house facilities.  The Main contractor is Compass Developments.

WAREHOUSE & OFFICE AT DUNNINGTON YORK FOR NORTHERN POWERGRID

Humphrey M&E Consultants are delighted to work alongside Todd Milburn Partnership to deliver the design of a new warehouse and office for Northern Powergrid at Dunnington York. The project comprises a 540sqm office block, 980sqm warehouse and external areas and parking.

WAREHOUSE FIRE WALL AND FIRE SPRINKLER SYSTEM DESIGN

Humphrey M&E Consultants are engaged to design fire remedial works for a warehouse on a MOD site. The project involves the creation of fire partitions, sprinkler tanks and pumping stations serving sprinklers within the 32,000sqm warehouse. The challenge of this project is that the sprinkler distribution will need to be supported from independent structures and not from the building.

SHOWER REFURBISHMENT SCHEME AT HMP ESTABLISHMENTS

Humphrey M&E Consultants are delighted to be working with Amey PLC on the refurbishment of showers under the Capital and Decency Funding Programmes at a number of HMP establishments. The projects involve the refurbishment of aged shower areas to safe, decent and fit for purpose shower facilities. Designs are carried out to comply with Estates Directorate Technical Standards including the use of anti-ligature fittings and fixtures.

WELL DONE JACK MANN ON GAINING HIS HNC

Humphrey M&E Consultants would like to congratulate Jack Mann on achieving HNC with Distinction.

After successfully completing his apprenticeship with us in 2017, Jack began his career as a Trainee Electrical Engineer studying at Hartlepool College in partnership with Teesside University to gain an HNC with Distinction in Building Services Engineering. He will continue to further his studies to complete his Degree.

Humphrey M&E Consultants are delighted to be working with H Malone & Sons on Phase 2 of the Newcastle Central Gateway project. 

The projects involves the design and relocation of existing refrigeration cooling units that serves air handling plant in and around Newcastle Central Station, to allow the new west entrance to Central Station to be formed.

Humphrey M&E Consultants are delighted to be working with Studio One on the design of a new Maintenance Delivery Unit (MDU) Welfare Facility and Weigh Bridge for Network Rail / Colt Construction. 

The Studio One team is made up of highly qualified and experienced engineers and specialists who are passionate about buildings, the built environment and maintaining a strong focus on environmental impact and protecting the natural environment.

Humphrey M&E Consultants are pleased to announce Steve Bradley has joined the HME Team as Senior Electrical Engineer working from our office in Durham City. 

With over 40 years experience, Steve is a highly organised and motivated Electrical Building Services Design Engineer. Steve has worked on many successful new build and refurbishment projects to date, these include: Law, Local Government, Residential, Commercial, Health, Education and Leisure. Steve brings with him a wealth of experience in the electrical industry.

HME WELCOMES JONATHAN ASHBY AS NEW INTERMEDIATE  ELECTRICAL ENGINEER

Please welcome our new team member Jonathan Ashby as Intermediate Electrical Engineer who joins us to work out of our offices in Durham City.

Jonathan gained his level 3 in Electrical Installation at Gateshead College in 2018 and then gained a Distinction in Building Services Foundation Degree in 2020. Jonathan previously worked as a Lighting Design Engineer for 2 years and prior to that worked as a Junior Electrical Engineer for a local building services consultant alongside a number of other HME staff including Mike Malt, Ben Battram, Sean Mills and Harriet Forster.

NEW ACCOMMODATION MODULES AT HMP ESTABLISHMENTS

Humphrey M&E Consultants are delighted to be working with Amey PLC on the provision of new accommodation modules at a number of HMP establishments. The projects involve the construction of individual living accommodation units together with modular association spaces for break-out areas, servery, office and laundry facility.

HMP ACCOMMODATION EXPANSIONS

Humphrey M&E Consultants are delighted to be working with JYM Partnership on a number of HMP Accommodation Expansion projects around the UK.

JYM Partnership was founded in 1996 to provide multi-disciplinary Building Consultancy Services throughout the UK. The Partnership has grown providing professional services in Project Management, Architecture, Building Surveying, Quantity Surveying and Principal Designer.

Humphrey M&E Consultants are delighted and proud to sponsor local football team Whickham Fellside U9 Blacks.

Whickham Fellside Youth Football Club are a well-established, much respected, and entirely voluntarily run group, whose member base is taken from the immediate community in the Gateshead area of the North-East.

The team recently had their first game after lockdown and had a hard fought 2-1 win against Wylam. Well done to the boys and keep up the brilliant hard work.

Abul Lais is an Intermediate Mechanical Engineer who joins us to work at our Head Office in Backworth.

Abul graduated in 2015 in Mechanical Engineering at Northumbria University with a BEng (Hons) and joined us in November 2019

New commissions from Successful Design

On the back of a successful design of a battery charging facility at a training camp in north of England, we have now been commissioned to design a further 3 more installations at MOD training camps in the north and north west of England.

Humphrey designed the CompEx compliant installation for the battery charging facility including ATEX rated electrical and ventilation equipment together with the bespoke ventilated shelving systems.

 

Humphrey’s join the green team

Look what we’ve just had installed at our offices in Backworth. 

As the car industry heads more towards electric vehicles for the future, we have installed an Electric Car Charging Point to help offset carbon omissions and provide the charging facility for our members of staff.

Progress with district heating main installation for works at MOD Site.

FROM APPRENTICE TO TRAINEE ELECTRICAL ENGINEER

Humphrey M&E Consultants would like to congratulate Jack Mann on completion of his apprenticeship with us and on taking up his new position as Trainee Electrical Engineer.

Jack joined Humphreys in 2017 as a CAD Apprentice and will be attending Hartlepool college on a day release basis to gain further qualification to advance his career.
